Fall Heating FAQs for Kokomo Homeowners

Turning on your heat can bring up a few questions. Brandt’s Heating, Cooling & Electrical answers six common questions about furnaces, boilers, and keeping your home comfortable this fall.

1. Do I need my furnace serviced and cleaned before turning it on?

No—if your furnace is working normally with no known issues, you can turn on your heat before having it serviced. We recommend a furnace service and clean once a year, but it’s okay to schedule it after you’ve started using your heat.

2. Do you work on boilers?

Yes! Brandt’s offers boiler repair, maintenance, and installation. We service and repair LP, natural gas, and oil-fired boilers. If you’re considering a new boiler, contact us to discuss your options and get a free estimate.

3. Why is my furnace blowing cold air?

If your thermostat’s fan is set to ON, it runs between heating cycles, which can make the air feel cool. Try AUTO instead. If your furnace never produces warm air or your home keeps getting colder, call for service.

4. Why does my furnace keep turning on and off?

Some cycling is normal, but repeatedly starting and stopping after brief runs can signal a problem. Check for a dirty filter. If it continues, schedule service to identify the cause.

5. Should I turn my thermostat down at night?

With a conventional furnace, lowering it a few degrees while sleeping or away can reduce heating use. Heat pumps may need a different approach, since large adjustments can trigger auxiliary heat on some systems.

6. Why are some rooms colder than others?

Blocked vents, ductwork issues, drafts, and insulation can cause uneven temperatures. Check that furniture and rugs aren’t covering vents or returns. If the problem continues, we can help determine why.
